A major outage at Cloudflare has caused intermittent outages on mixstream.net for some users, we expect service to be back to normal shortly.

Thank you for your patience.

  • Google Chrome update – TLS streams

Due to a recent Google Chrome update, plain HTTP content (such as many audio streams) will not be played for some Chrome users if hosted on a TLS enabled web page. Previously, the user would have seen a ‘mixed content’ warning and the stream will have played normally.

The player that we provide with your MixStream server automatically detects whether a TLS stream is required (this has been the case for some time now as it avoided the mixed content warnings), but if you are using any other player (such as your own HTML5 player or a third party player) on your TLS enabled website then you will need to change your stream URL to the secure version.

To obtain your TLS stream URL, please log into the dahsboard and click the ‘Servers’ option in the menu, navigate to your server and scroll down to ‘Listener Connections’. You will need to use the ‘Stream URL (TLS)’ or ‘TLS Proxy’.

If you use Shoutcast then the TLS stream is provided via a web proxy.
Icecast servers support TLS natively – this makes it more reliable than using a proxy.

What is TLS?
TLS was formerly known as SSL and is the name of the encryption that’s used for securing web pages. You can tell if a web page is TLS enabled by looking at the URL – if it starts with https:// and not http:// then it is TLS enabled.

Do I need to make changes if my website isn’t TLS enabled?
No, if your web page starts with http:// then you don’t need to use the TLS enabled stream URL.

  • DDoS attack on network provider affecting control panel

One of our network providers (used for the websites and control panel) is currently experiencing a large DDoS attack against their core infrastructure, this has been affecting them since the 26th August. Problems have been intermittent due to their efforts to mitigate the attack, however there have been some issues with the control panel timing out as a result.

Please be assured that this is not affecting customer services (other than the control panel login for mixstream.net users) as we only use this provider for our own hosting.

  • Emails sent out in error

It has come to our attention that a small number of customers have received emails from us saying that their trial account has expired, despite having full accounts and not trials.

These emails were sent out by our system in error and your account has not expired.

We would like to apologise for any confusion caused by the emails.

  • Blackberry update

Just a quick update on the Blackberry situation. We have been testing with the new OS and have made adjustments to the mobile link which is now compatible. Premium servers are now updated, and value servers will be done this afternoon.

  • Mobile Link – note about Blackberries

We have had a few reports that Blackberry no longer works on our mobile link. I am aware that there was a Blackberry update in the last week or so and will be updating mine and testing it. The blackberry option should work in the next day or two.

Hello,

We are making some changes to the mailing list and need to delete all of the emails that are currently registered. Service updates were previously hosted on the same WordPress site. This resulted in 1000s of email addresses being hosted on the mailing list which has started to slow down delivery of important announcements – sometimes by several hours.

If you are using any of the following services then please re-subscribe your email address at http://status.bellonline.co.uk/mailing-list/

Web Hosting, Shoutcast, AutoDJ, Transcoding, Dedicated Servers (you can view a full list of categories on the site)

If you are using FreeStreamHosting.org then please don’t sign up for this mailing list, you will be sent another email shortly with further instructions.

As before, you will be sent a link to confirm your subscription and choose the categories you’d like to sign up to.

We recommend that you choose updates for the server(s) that you are hosted on to avoid receiving emails that don’t affect your service. If you are unsure about which server(s) you are on then please open a support ticket and we will be happy to get the information for you.

Regards,

Bell Online Ltd- http://status.bellonline.co.uk/

  • Flash radio player upgrade

A brand new and improved flash radio player will be introduced over the next day. Some customers may have already noticed it when going to your flash player page (e.g http://shoutcast.mixstream.net/flash/uk2-pn:8740)

MixStream Radio Player Features:

* Exclusive to MixStream
* Auto updates song title
* View song history with artist images
* Real VU meter (left and right channels)
* Ability to specify colours and background image
* It’s one louder than the rest

The player will soon be available to anyone that wishes to use it, even non-MixStream customers.

The new player will be rolled out to the javascript embed code, so if you have that on your website you will see the new player after tomorrow.

If you would prefer to keep the old version, then simply change the part of the URL in the code that says flash to flashclassic, otherwise you don’t need to make any changes.

It is worth noting that the new player is wider to allow for the VU meters.

EDIT: 21/09/10, typing error

  • [update] Stats server back up

The stats server is now back up, but I’ve already ordered and am in the process of setting up a new server so will continue with that.

Once that’s set up, it may take some time for the DNS settings to update, but both servers will be active simultaneously.

The new server should mean that we don’t have the same problem again.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, it seems like the graphs wouldn’t transfer across to the new server for some reason, but as it has only been a few days since the last issue which resulted in the loss of graph data, not a lot has been lost this time. On the bright side, the new server should be much better as we’re using much higher quality hardware this time.
